KINGSVILLE — The Kingsville Independent School District (KISD) has received an F accountability rating for the 2024–25 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency’s Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR). The rating does not mean schools are closing or losing funding, but it does indicate that required state performance standards are not being met and improvement will be expected as the spring semester begins.
The rating has been publicly reported through the state’s release. This article focuses on what that information means for local families, rather than simply announcing the score.
District administrators are currently on winter break, and further clarification is not yet available. This overview is being shared now so families have time to review the data and understand the context before students return to campuses.
How Kingsville ISD compares
According to the TAPR:
- Meets Grade Level (all subjects): 23% compared with a statewide average near 50%
- Math Meets: 15%, compared with roughly 45% statewide
- Reading/ELA Meets: 29%, compared with about 54% statewide
- Algebra I Meets: 8%, raising concerns about high school and postsecondary readiness
These results reflect academic challenges across multiple grade levels rather than an isolated issue limited to one campus or subject.
What typically happens after an F rating
In Texas, districts receiving an F usually:
- Update or submit improvement plans to the TEA
- Identify subjects where intervention is most needed
- Increase academic progress monitoring
- Adjust instructional supports or intervention time
KISD may begin implementing changes to tutoring access, intervention blocks, or instructional approaches when staff return.
What families may see in the spring
- Notices about intervention or remediation programs
- Additional assessments or data reviews
- Campus communication regarding reading and math supports
- Clarification about subject-specific improvement priorities
Closing
Because district offices are closed for the holiday break, additional details are not yet available. Kingsville Independent News will follow up after staff return in January and update this article if more information is provided.
