Kingsville will mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day with its annual MLK Parade and “Taste of Soul” celebration on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, an event that pairs civic recognition with cultural tradition.
The parade will line up at 10:30 a.m. and begin at 11 a.m. through the downtown district. Local residents, school organizations, churches and civic groups are invited to walk, ride or line the route in support.
Following the parade, the celebration continues at the Dick Kleberg Park Recreation Center from 12 to 2 p.m. with the “Taste of Soul,” a community cooking event featuring homemade dishes rooted in Southern and African American culinary traditions. Entries will be judged across five categories: main course, vegetables, desserts, sides and breads.
A day rooted in what King believed
Across the country, MLK Day has become more than a date on a calendar, it is a moment for communities to reflect on what King stood for: dignity, equality, nonviolence and the belief that neighbors have a responsibility to one another.
While his speeches and marches often make the history books, the heart of his work centered on building a country where people saw each other as equals and worked through their differences without hate. Events like Kingsville’s parade reflect that spirit by creating space for residents to stand side by side, show support and stay hopeful about the future.
The “Taste of Soul” event adds another layer by honoring Black culinary traditions rooted in resilience, celebration and family. Soul food recipes were often passed down through generations. Sharing those dishes in Kingsville continues that tradition locally.
Organizes urge the community to participate in this yearly event.
“Come join us in unity to honor and remember to never lose hope,” organizers said in a release.
