KINGSVILLE — A beloved holiday tradition is back this year as Marine Toys for Tots has relaunched in Kleberg and Kenedy counties after a brief pause in 2023. With Texas A&M University–Kingsville stepping up as the new campaign partner, local coordinator Krystal Emery said the program’s return couldn’t come at a better time for families facing financial hardship.
Marine Toys for Tots, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1947, first served Kleberg County in 1987, and ran successfully until 2022. The city of Bishop is also included this year through coordination with the Nueces County campaign.
“Our goal is simple,” Emery said. “Through the gift of a new toy, we help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s economically disadvantaged children.”
A new way to give this year
One of the most exciting additions to the 2024 campaign is the Walmart Spark Good registry, offering donors an easy and direct way to support local children.
“This is our first year using Walmart’s Spark Good program,” Emery said. “It allows us to carefully select toys that align with the requests we’re seeing from families in our own community.”
Emery added that while they try to match every child with a toy they requested, they cannot guarantee specific items because their inventory depends on what the community donates.
Donors can shop the registry from home, and purchases are sent directly to the local campaign, helping ensure children receive gifts they will truly enjoy.

Monetary donations are also accepted online, and pick-up options are available for those unable to travel. Several organizations are hosting their own toy drives, further boosting the community effort.
Families can still register for assistance
Local families needing help this Christmas must register online by December 8. Email is the fastest way to communicate with the local Toys for Tots team, and updates will be shared regularly on Facebook and Instagram.
“Every single toy makes a difference.”
With the holidays fast approaching, Emery hopes to meet, or exceed, previous years’ donations.
“This is my first year coordinating the campaign, so this year will set our baseline,” Emery said. “Our goal is to provide at least two gifts for every registered child.”
In 2022, the community collected 1,606 toys.
“This program has always been about giving children hope,” Emery said. “Every single toy donated makes a difference.”
